Tax Benefit Model
The Tax Benefit Model Tables 2009 were released on 15th October 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
The Tax Benefit Model Tables is an annual publication designed to illustrate the weekly financial circumstances of a selection of hypothetical local authority and private tenants. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 24th September 2008.
The key points from the release are:
- The tables detail the Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions and benefits payable to the family types and how these change at increasing levels of earned income, based on tax and benefit rates and estimated rents as at April 2009.
- The tables show the marginal deduction rate - the percentage of each extra £1 earned which is lost in increased tax/National Insurance and in reductions in benefit/ tax credit entitlement for different hypothetical family types.
- The tables also show how the net income after housing costs for someone on Income Support/ Jobseeker’s Allowance compares with net income after housing costs when the head of household works at least 16 hours a week – the replacement ratio.
