Quarterly Summary of Statistics
The latest national statistics on benefit claimants, employment programmes, labour market decisions and vacancies produced by the Department for Work and Pensions were released on 11th November 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
The DWP Statistical Summary aims to give users a structured overview of these National Statistics published by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 12th August 2009.
The key points from the latest release are:
- Provisional data shows there were around 288 thousand claiming Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) at May 2009.
- At August 2009 over 6 million people were in receipt of either Housing Benefit (HB) or Council Tax Benefit (CTB). There were just less than 4.5 million recipients of HB and 5.5 million recipients of CTB.
- There were 266 thousand new claims to Pension Credit (PC) in the year to May 2009.
- At May 2009 there were:
- 4.97 million working age key out-of-work benefit claimants, of which 2.62 million were ‘ESA and incapacity benefits’ claimants (provisional).
- 720 thousand lone parents claiming Income Support.
- 12.30 million claimants of State Pension.
- 2.73 million claimants of PC.
