180 New Deal for disabled people national extension: first wave of the first cohort of the survey of registrants This report presents finding from the first ever survey of people registering for the New Deal for Disabled People as extended nationally in July 2001. 178 Lone Parents Personal Adviser meetings: Qualitative evaluation and case studies on delivery of six months review meetings In 2002 mandatory work-focused review meetings were introduced for lone parents who had made a new or repeat claim for Income Support after April of that year, and who were still in receipt of benefit six months later. The six monthly reviews were intended to maintain Personal Adviser contact with customers, to keep them informed and up to date with details of available help and support, and to encourage voluntary entry to the New Deal for Lone Parents (NDLP) programme. 177 Creating local opportunity: self-employment and labour market outcomes from DHP business start-up programmes in Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield There has been a substantial increase in the number of programmes whose primary aim is to facilitate the unemployed, and others, to successfully make the transition into self-employment. In the UK, many thousands of people enter such programmes each year. At a time when this option is increasingly available in the UK, it appears apposite to provide decision-makers with real evidence concerning the impact of such programmes on the recipients of this type of support. 176 Evaluation of Employment Zones: report on a cohort survey of long-term unemployed people in the zones and a matched set of comparison areas The study is based a cohort of people eligible for referral to an Employment Zone. 175 The wider labour market impact of Employment Zones This report sets out findings from a research project undertaken as part of the evaluation of the Employment Zones (EZs). The project examines the wider labour market impacts of the EZ programme. 173 Intermediate labour markets in Britain and an international review of transitional employment programmes

Much debate surrounds the potential role of Intermediate Labour Markets (ILMs) in assisting the long-term unemployed into unsubsidised jobs. ILM activity has grown significantly and ILMs play a significant role in the delivery of the New Deals.

For this report, we defined ILMs as a diverse range of initiatives that typically provide temporary waged employment in a genuine work environment with continuous support to assist the transition to work.

172 National evaluation of Lone Parent Personal Adviser meetings: findings from a longitudinal survey of clients This report presents findings from the second phase of the quantitative survey, following the progress of lone parents over a one-year period following their initial mandatory Personal Adviser meeting. This includes their attendance at subsequent meetings, both voluntary and mandatory annual review meetings, and their attitudes to these meetings. 171 Synthesising the Evidence on Flexible Delivery This report aims to synthesise evidence from pilots that have introduced more flexible approaches to delivering programmes and services for the long term unemployed. 170 New Deal for Disabled People Evaluation Eligible Population Survey Wave One Interim Report Part of the evaluation of New Deal for Disabled People, this preliminary report is based on the first of three waves of the Survey of the Eligible Population, carried out by the National Centre for Social Research. 169 New Deal for disabled people national extension: findings from the first wave of qualitative research with clients, job brokers and Jobcentre Plus staff. This report presents the findings of a first wave of qualitative research carried out as part of the evaluation of New Deal for Disabled People National Extension, and explores the organisation, operation and impacts of the Job Broker services. 168 Jobcentre Plus National Customer Satisfaction Survey 2003 This is the first national customer satisfaction survey that has collected views from customers since the creation of the Jobcentre Plus agency. 164 New Deal for Young People: introducing a more 'tailored' approach Tailored Pathways was a pilot introduce across 17 Jobcentre Plus areas early in 2002 to test the impact of a more flexible approach to the Options stage of New Deal for Young People (NDYP). 159 Evaluation of Lone Parent Adviser meetings: interim findings from administrative data analysis In April 2001, Personal Adviser Meetings (PA Meetings), also known as work-focused meetings, were introduced nationally for lone parents claiming Income Support. This is a report of interim findings, using relevant administrative data that covers the period from May 1999 to May 2002, which will subsequently be updated. The method of difference in differences is used to identify the net impact of the PA Meetings system on outcomes for eligible lone parents. 153 Jobcentre Plus Performance Targets: A Review of the Evidence, 200-2002 This report brings together the findings of a number of studies that were conducted over the period 200 to 2002 that investigated the operation and impact of the different target regimes that have been in place within Jobcentre Plus and the previous Employment Service. 152 The new costs and individual benefits of the Supported Employment Programme This study was undertaken to estimate the net cost of the Supported Employment Programme and to assess the individual benefits of the programme to disabled workers. When the research was commissioned the Supported Employment Programme was undergoing review, leading to the introduction of a reformed programme known as WORKSTEP. 144 Evaluation of MES: jobcentre case studies In 2001 the then Employment Service established a number of Customer Service Centres (CSCs) to centralise vacancy taking and follow-up under the ‘Employer Direct’ element of the “Modernising the Employment Service” programme. GLE investigated emerging issues for employers and Jobcentre Plus staff in three sweeps, the first in summer 2001, the second in January and February 2002 and the third in summer 2002. 143 Jobseeker Traffic Survey: year two The Modernising the Employment Service programme (MES) has led to large scale changes to services for Jobseekers, employers and Jobcentre staff alike. The 2002 Jobseeker Traffic Survey follows up on the 2001 baseline Jobseeker survey (ESR108).
