GP systems are increasingly computer-based, whilst the medical certificate (sick note) has remained paper-based. A trial of electronic sickness certification (eMed3) was set up in a small number of GP practices in Wales, with the aim of developing and testing the use of electronic medical certificates. This report presents findings from an evaluation of the trial, which comprised qualitative research with participating and non-participating GPs, practice managers, employers and employees.
