RR 637 The Better-off in Work Credit Incentives and experiences
by Richard Dorsett, Hilary Metcalf and Heather Rolfe, with Helen Bewley, Amar Dhudwar, Anitha George and Rebecca Hopkin
From October 2008 in the Yorkshire and Humber District Jobcentre Plus ran the Better off in Work Credit (BWC) pilot which gave customers moving into work of 16hrs or more work the guarantee that they would be at least £25 better off in work than on benefits.
The research presented here provides results from quantitative modelling which identifies households who may benefit from the credit using a Departmental model based on Family Resource Survey data. It also presents experiences and lessons learnt from information collected during qualitative interviews with eligible customers who did and did not take up the credit and staff in the pilot areas
