Encouraging labour market activity among 60-64 year olds
By: Sarah Vickerstaff, Wendy Loretto, Jenny Billings, Patrick Brown, Lavinia Mitton, Tina Parkin and Phil WhiteThis report presents the findings of a qualitative research study, commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in October 2006, to examine how to best encourage the 60-64 age group to take up or remain in work. In addition, the research investigated the opportunities presented by State Pension equalisation to create incentives and remove barriers to work for this group. Ninety-six in-depth interviews were carried out between April and July 2007 with individuals and couples in three locations in Great Britain. The research was carried out by the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research, University of Kent in conjunction with The University of Edinburgh Business School.
