Jobcentre Plus Annual Employer (Market View) Survey 2005-06

Research Report No. 372

by Karen Bunt, Fiona McAndrew and Alistair Kuechel

One of the key aims of Jobcentre Plus is to increase economic activity and encourage non-employed individuals of working age (back) into the workforce, particularly those at a disadvantage in the labour market. Engagement with employers is a key enabler of that process and Jobcentre Plus developed a sales team including account and sector managers and more specialist managers and advisers to work with employers at both national and local levels in order to facilitate closer working with employers. A specific remit is to encourage greater involvement in the Department for Work and Pensions' wider welfare to work objectives.

IFF Research Ltd. was commissioned to undertake the second annual survey of employers in Great Britain to monitor changes in the recruitment market and the effectiveness of Jobcentre Plus' employer activities. A total of 4,542 telephone interviews were conducted with establishments in the target market for Jobcentre Plus services, i.e. establishments that had recruited or tried to recruit externally in the last 12 months. The survey was conducted between 8 November 2005 and 11 January 2006.
