Low/Moderate-income Families in Britain: Changes in Living Standards
Research Report No. 164
By Sandra Vegeris and Stephen McKay
This report presents findings from the second year of a representative survey of Britain's lone parents and low/moderate income couple families with children. The main focus of this research is to examine the effectiveness of work incentive measures such as the Working Families Tax Credit (WFTC) in enabling low/moderate income families with children to obtain and remain in paid employment. The research also looks at issues of family welfare such as housing, health, morale, optimism, hardship and debt. This is the second of three reports on the findings of the 2000 survey - it focuses on changes in family incomes, living standards and rates of hardship.
